Biography

His maiden first-class fifty came five years after his debut, and three more years later there was a maiden century to his name. Daniel Harris probably had a lot of patience with respect to his cricketing career, thanks to his qualification as a medical doctor.

Despite debuting for South Australia in 1999-2000, Harris did not bat for his team until 2004-05, when he played a fine knock of 82 against Western Australia. His wonderful run of form continued for the next couple of seasons, although he was constantly on the fringes of the team. Harris peaked in the 2008-09 Sheffield Shield season, where he piled 813 runs and rocketed to fifth place in the competition tally. That confirmed his position as one of the strongest batsmen in the team.

Nicknamed “Mass”, Harris has a good eye to spot the ball and couples his technique with enthusiasm to score huge runs with a penchant for hitting through point and cover. He is also a brilliant fieldsman, a skill that was best displayed in his debut match, when he completed an overhead catch at cover, leaping like a soccer goalkeeper.
