Biography

A representative of Bangladesh's 2004 Under-19 World Cup, Naeem Islam made a hurried entry in international cricket after the rebel league robbed Bangladesh of several of its key players.

A top order batsman and a part time off break bowler, the Gaibandha born youngster made his Test and ODI debut in the home series against New Zealand in 2008 but some lackluster performances soon after saw him dropped from the Test arena though he continued featuring in ODIs. He played his first innings of substance in the fifth ODI against Zimbabwe in 2009 where with an unbeaten 73, guiding Bangladesh to a one wicket victory.

Though he is a big hitter of the cricket ball, the right-hander has often been criticized for getting bogged down and for his poor shot selection. However, Bangladesh's selectors continue to persist with him in a hope that he will eventually come good.
