Born in Amravati, Maharashtra, Apoorv Wankhede is a right-handed batsman who made his Twenty20 debut for Vidarbha in the 2011 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Bengal. In the 2012 CK Nayudu tournament, he was the leading run-scorer with 466 runs at an avg of 52. Highly impressed with his batting technique, ability to score big and quick and agility as a fielder, he was roped in by the Mumbai franchise for the 2012 edition of the Indian T20 League along with five uncapped players. However, he is yet to play a game.
