Biography

A prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket, Dominic Sibley is an upcoming English cricketer known for his old-fashioned batting style stuffed with patience, grit, determination and sound technique.

Sibley made his first-class debut aged just 18 years old for Surrey. In just his third first-class match, he broke numerous records on his way to a double century. He became the youngest double-centurion in the history of the County Championship and the second-youngest Englishman to score a first-class double hundred. Ryan Sidebottom was the man to dismiss him but only after he had played a scintillating knock of 242 runs which had already put him in the headlines.

After a couple of off-seasons by Sibley during which Surrey was relegated, people started to think that his knock was a one-off. However, he believed in himself and Surrey also came back to the first division fairly quickly after a much-improved performance. Perhaps unsettled by Surrey's decision to sign Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick as top-order competition at the end of 2016, he surprised the club by turning down a new three-year contract during the 2017 season and moved to Warwickshire on loan, much to the frustration of Surrey.

All the hard work eventually paved the way for his international debut when he was included in the Test squad to tour New Zealand. It was a below-average series for the opening batsman but he managed to turn it around in the following away series in South Africa. Dom played some exceptional knocks there, consisting of a fabulous century as he delivered very consistently. In him, England's long search for a solid Test opener appears to be over, however, it's still early days in his career.
