Biography

With the presence of a very capable and at times destructive wicketkeeper/batsman like Brendon McCullum in its rakes, it has been difficult for Peter McGlashan to break into the New Zealand side, especially when there is additional competition from other keepers like Gareth Hopkins.

The Napier-born player made his international debut for the national side in a T20I game against Sri Lanka in 2006, but failed to impress, making just seven runs in his first two games and as a result was dropped from the side. He did what he had to behind the stumps, but it made more sense to entrust McCullum with the gloves and give McGlashan’s place to either a specialist batsman or a bowler.

McGlashan normally bats below all the recognised batsmen and has performed reasonably well in domestic cricket. He is aggressive in his batting, but his performances are inconsistent. Whether he can hold a place in a side that features the likes of McCullum is yet to be seen, but an improved performance with the willow will only better his chances.
